Faith In God Obeys God

And unbelief in God rebels against Him. He does not just save us to take us to Heaven someday. He wants to save us from disobedience here and now. He wants to make us obedient. Very simple and yet very profound truth.

Romans 16:25-26: Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began, 26 But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:

Romans 8:7: Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

Psalms 107:11-13: Because they rebelled against the words of God, and contemned the counsel of the most High: 12 Therefore he brought down their heart with labour; they fell down, and there was none to help. 13 Then they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them out of their distresses.

Unbelievers have a carnal mind and whether or not they know it and admit it, they are enemies of God and cannot and do not obey Him. When unbelievers become believers, rebels are to become servants and disobedient hearts are to become obedient. God*s slightest wish should be our command. Some believers are unaware of the great distinctions between their old self and their new self. They permit the distinctions to be blurred rather than clear-cut. They alternate between walking in the Spirit and fulfilling the lust of the flesh. I have been guilty of that and still am altogether too often. Blessedly, God forgives and gives us fresh starts every day.

There are numerous commands in the Bible that unbelievers virtually always disobey. God*s commands should always be obeyed by believers but we can be very inconsistent in our obedience. Just a few of the commands that He has saved us to obey and which I have too often neglected:

2 Timothy 2:15: Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Romans 12:2: And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Hebrews 10:25: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

1 Thessalonians 5:17: Pray without ceasing.

2 Timothy 4:2: Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

Mark 16:15: And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

Romans 6:4: Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Luke 10:27: And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.
